Lesson C4.2

Retries with exponential backoff and jitter

Play this lessonThis lesson comes with a live-code challenge and a chapter quiz.

Many failures are transient (a dropped packet, a restarting pod, a 503). Retrying fixes them, but naive retries make outages worse: if 10,000 clients retry instantly, a struggling service gets hit even harder (a retry storm).
