Lesson 15.3

Moving away from one server, and sync conflicts

Play this lessonThis lesson comes with an interactive animation you can break and a chapter quiz.

One day you get an alert: only 10 MB of storage left. First idea: shard the data by user_id across several storage servers. But a storage server failure could still lose data. So we move files to Amazon S3, an object store with industry-leading scalability, availability, security and performance, and enable replication (same-region and cross-region) so data survives even a whole region failing.
